2020 QB position

The QB will always be the first position to be evaluated and get the majority of the blame, in this case... yeah Mitch Trubisky needs to get it together next year, he shows flashes of talent but then shows you boneheaded decision making that makes me understand why fans and critics want him out. What Jimmy Garopollo and others showed me this postseason is that when your team is struggling they will turn to the QB to give them hope of victory with their play and leadership, the ones that respond are the called elite, Trubisky is a QB who the team can win with but not one that wins because of him, he is not elite but average at best right now, the little tape he has accumulated doesn't show hes on the path to being one and will continue to show more inconsistency if the Oline, TE position and coaching are not fixed and upgraded. Coaching was the first to get purged and renewed with the hireing of OC Bill Lazor, QB coach John DeFilippo, OL coach Juan Castillo and TE coach Clancy Barone. Lazor is the one that is creating more noise in the league for his connections with the Bengals when he was their OC with Andy Dalton on his offense who is on the trading block or some say he is, some critics say the Bears should take a shot at getting Dalton and be their starting QB for this coming season, well I'll get to that  in a bit.
Chase Daniel is a free agent and I believe his work with the Bears is done, he has shown what he can do as a backup QB and as a mentor to Trubisky for some years now and I believe there is better value at FA to get upgraded at backup QB, meaning I still believe Trubisky should get the nod in 2020. Competition to push Trubisky is needed no question about it, bringing someone like Dalton or Derek Carr by trade would be tempting but they would be taking the starting job, not competing for it. I don't think they are sure things to push the Bears to the next level and it would cost draft stock that the Bears are lacking, I would prefer to use cap space to fill the need. Top prospects Drew Brees and Tom Brady would break the Bears bank, although they would most probably upgrade the position, there is no telling for how long. This would kill any chance for Trubisky to come back from his 2019 performance and make him a bust pick. If Brady or Brees pan out with some playoff appearances then Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy keep their jobs and the search for the future QB for the Bears continue on their hands. Same thing happens if they go for Teddy Bridgewater, a less probable upgrade but with promise, I would pass on him. Realistic option for me would be Marcus Mariota, he would come in and compete and if he wins the job it's because the coaching staff sees something that Trubisky didn't show and I would be OK with that. Ryan Tannehill or Case Keenum would be options as well, even if Tannehill took a step forward this season doesn't mean he is an automatic starting QB in my eyes and should be treated like Nick Foles with the Eagles and  not pay for him like the Jaguars. These two should be quality back ups that could earn the dollar Chase Daniel was paid. Tyler Bray is a big question mark, he could be called up from the PS for the backup job, if he is not then it's time to search for another QB this year to polish, but in what round? there is not enough ammo to spread around to fill all the holes on the roster and still have some to strengthen other positions.
The offense needs to be reworked and reloaded, there is not enough cash to take the "easy" road unless there are some drastic moves made by Pace, the road I would take is go all in with Trubisky but then again my job isn't on the line.

2019 season recap

I disappeared just like the Bears hopes of a playoff push after that week 15 loss to the Packers. With work consuming my free time in big chunks these past days mixed with the disappointment I felt this season, I just couldn't get my head straight to get back to writing, which has given me something I really like and makes me feel I get more into the flow of the game and the team, which at the same time gets me to care more about the Bears organizations decisions and results, so yeah really disappointed.
The season is done with the Chiefs lifting up the Lombardi this year which is well deserved, playing comeback the whole postseason all the way to the Super Bowl, it was the Chiefs to lose this year with the type of offense they had and how they were performing and responding against tough defenses beating the Texans and Titans who were on a role coming form victories against the former champs and the number 1 seed, it seemed they had the momentum but the Chiefs just stole it from them, there I knew they had to be the favorites even against the number 1 defense. Patrick Mahomes is a great QB but the trophy was won by the performance of the whole team who never gave up, the Chiefs defense showed that they had good players and is somewhat confusing how average they were the whole season. The 49ers defense couldn't mask the average QB Jimmy Garoppolo is but even with the lead the defense couldn't stop the Chiefs offense, so its on them as much as its on Garoppolo and the coach for putting the game on Garoppolo's hands to shut it down.
This matchup tells us much about how the Bears roster is, many would know from the start of the season that they aren't far away from being where they want to be, honestly they had everything they needed to pull it of but a fair share of factors just didn't show what was expected. Mitch Trubisky taking a step back in his development, Kyle Long hanging up his cleats and calling it a career leaving a huge gap at RG exposing every single position on the Oline finding no solution the whole year, having no TE to play the U position Matt Nagy covets so much and seems incapable of changing things up to make his offense work, Tarik Cohen not being utilised properly to take advantage of his speed but also him showing he is not willing to take the hits needed for longer gains, an average kicker still on trial, all this made it extremely hard to get points on the board. On defense the problems turned to be nice surprises, losing Akiem Hicks hurt the defense badly and then losing Danny Trevathan could have been worse but these injuries showed the high talent the roster had on the bench and even elevated it on some players on the field showing stability on defense and that Chuck Pagano can work with this unit.
Clearly there are decisions to be made for this next season mostly on the offensive side, coaches were fired and new ones hired mainly i guess to try and elevate the play of Trubisky, with not much ammo to upgrade through the draft and limited salary cap to boost the roster on free agency, Ryan Pace doesn't have much to plug holes but what really needs to be fixed is the coach and QB situation, Pace brought Nagy in because he said he could make it work with Trubisky so if he fails he just might bright the other two down with him and that would result in another reset which no one wants but needs to happen.
