2024 Round 1 Mockish draft

    My fist one blogged, not exactly predicting the pick but more like the route teams should take based on how I perceive their rosters as of a couple of days before this years draft. I only added one trade up by the Vikings because its the only team I see that is desperate for a QB and is not in prime position to take one, so, up they go. Also I took the QB position as an important need for teams that really don't have one established as a franchise one, so Raiders, Giants and Patriots get one here, was considering the Broncos but with their trade for Zach Wilson I changed it, still not convinced they fixed the position though. Added the number of picks for each team to help me guess if a team has enough capital to attack every position I feel they need to address, surprisingly there are very few teams that I consider need to get more picks, Titans and Bears being the top ones, there will be movement but really guessing each one gests messy so I really limited this mock and kept it simple.

Pick #1 CHI: Four picks, two 1st rounders, but no picks in the 2nd, 5th, 6th and 7th round. Roster is average at worst but both sides of the ball have a good foundation. QB will be assessed immediately with the #1 picking up Caleb Williams.

Expected: Caleb Williams

Second best: Drake Maye

Surprise: Anything else

Pick #2 WAS: Nine picks total, no 4th and 5th rounders, but have two 2nd and 5th rounders and three 3rd rounders. They have enough picks to consider not needing to trade down. Secondary is a mess and no established QB, weak OL group. Its going to be a QB here, but of all the teams that are QB needy, I believe this team is the worst destination right now.

Pick #3 NE: Eight picks total, one each round plus a 6th. Not much needs on defense, offensive side needs help. Best option is QB but could go best OT while trying to survive this season and pick QB next year.

Surprise: Marvin Harrison Jr./Trade down

Pick #4 AZ: Eleven picks total, one pick in each round and an extra 1st and 5th round, two more in the 3rd round. They need help at defense and the OL, but they need receiver help badly and Marvin Harrison is there, they don't need to trade back to get more capital so its mostly a no brainer.

Expected: Marvin Harrison Jr.

Second best: Malik Nabers/Rome Odunze

Surprise: Trade down

Pick #5 LAC: Eight picks total, one in each round plus a 5th and 7th rounders. Desperate for wideouts and deepen the running back room, defense is OK but could get help at the DL, FS.

Second best: Rome Odunze/Brock Bowers/Joe Alt

Surprise: Trade down

Pick #6 NYG: Six picks in total, one in all rounds except the 7th. Need help on both sides, but they have a chance to try and upgrade/reset the QB position with an average roster. If they don't have a favorite QB, they can trade out to someone who does have a preference while getting more picks which would help them significantly.

Second best: Rome Odunze/Malik Nabers

Surprise: Trade down

Pick #7 TEN: Seven picks, no 3rd and two on the 7th round. Soft offense that needs weapons, major holes at EDGE and LB. Could go best EDGE, OL or a WO. Too many needs with a sophomore QB, a trade down with a needy QB team would be ideal.

Second best: Rome Odunze/Joe Alt/Dallas Turner

Surprise: Brock Bowers

Pick #8 ATL: Eight picks, no seventh but two on the 3rd and 6th round. Very solid team offensively, solid defense with a glaring hole at LB, need help at EDGE and are in a good spot to get the best pass rusher to their liking, most probable will be Dallas Turner.

Second best: Joe Alt/Rome Odunze

Surprise: Trade down

Pick #9 CHI: With limited picks and still a handful of spots to upgrade, a trade down could be very well be considered if there is interest from another team, if they stay put and Odunze is still on the board, he would be the pick.

Pick #10 NYJ: Seven picks total, no 2nd or 5th rounders but two 4th and 7th rounders,. Solid team that is a receiver away from being scary good, help at LB and FS. How the board is dropping, getting a young promising T for insurance and the future would be very beneficial for them.

Second best: (RT) Tyler Guyton/J.C. Latham/Amarius Mims

Pick #11 MIN: Nine picks total, two 1st, 4th, 5th and 7th rounders, but no 2nd or 3rd rounders. Some depth help needed in pass rush and defensive coverage, also depth at OL and WR but overall not to shabby a team, but I don't know how they end day one without picking a QB, but had no visits with one of the top 5 so I have no idea who they would pick, if they stay put they can get a chance of picking Bo Nix or maybe Michael Penix if they fall to this spot, or they can trade up for J.J. McCarthy if he really is that coveted by QB needy teams.

Second best: (DT) Murphy/Newton or (EDGE) Verse/Latu

Surprise: CB 

Pick #12 DEN: Eight picks total, no 2nd or 7th rounders but three 5th and two 6th rounders. They need help on defense all around except CB, offensively any player can improve their situation but they need to address the QB position, they will be a very strong candidate to go up and get one, be it Penix who they had a visit with or McCarthy. LIVE UPDATE: Zach Wilson enters the QB carrousel for the Broncos, potentially the starter for the 2024 season, so looks like Denver will wait until next year to select a QB when/if Wilson cant keep the ship afloat.

Second best: Byron Murphy/Jer'Zhan Newton

Surprise: Cooper DeJean

Pick #13 LV: Eight picks total, one in each round and an extra 7th rounder. Such an average team with needs all around except the DL. They could benefit by getting a QB but I don't expect them to and rather just get what best player available they can get on each round, in the first round they might be getting a falling star like Bowers, Newton or Latu depending on where they want to play Tyree Wilson or they can go JPJ or Zach Frazier for the future, BPA at WO or EDGE or just trade back. With the Vikings picking Zach Wilson, QB might be on the table for the Raiders without trading up.

Pick #14 NO: Nine picks total, no 2nd and 3rd rounders but have four 5th and two 6th rounders. Solid offense with big needs at DT and S. They could benefit by picking Newton, Hall or Murphy unless they are thinking of unleashing Brian Bresee this year, if this being the case they can go BPA like IOL or EDGE, reach a bit by picking Tyler Nubin or trading back.

Pick #15 IND: Seven picks total, one in each round. The offense is solid, its just waiting for Anthony Richardson to make it happen. The defense it needs another good CB and maybe some help at S, it really needs a LB, it would be beneficial for them to pick best CB instead of best LB, Terrion Arnold or Quinyon Mitchell depending of type. They had Xavier Worthy for a visit and could be a surprise reach at this point of the draft.

Pick #16 SEA: Seven picks total, no 2nd rounder but have two 4th rounders. Very solid team, have some need at the IOL, LB, CB and SS but no pressing needs and can go BAP. Could consider Quinyon Mitchell or JPJ. A visit from Jared Verse might make him the pick here.

Surprise: Payton Wilson/Cedric Gray/Edgerrin Cooper

Pick # 17 JAX: Eight picks total, one each round and an extra 4th rounder. Solid team with some needed WO help on offense, at defense need some help at DT, NB and SS. At this stop they can go get a WR or Ben Sinnott to help them offensively, or maybe Cooper DeJean fits well here.

Pick #18 CIN: Ten picks total, one on each round plus a 3rd, 6th and 7th rounder. Very good team, they just need to clear the Tee Higgins drama. They have taken various OT visits and might what to get younger for the future which is not a bad idea with a sound roster all around. Amarius Mims or Troy Fautanu would be great depth.

Pick #19 LAR: Eleven picks total, no 4th rounder but two 3rd and 5th rounders plus four 6th rounders. Need OL, EDGE, LB and serious S help, can really benefit by grabbing a OT early like Amarius Mims or Tyler Guyton.

Pick #20 PIT: Seven picks total, no 5th rounder but two 3rd and 6th rounders.  Solid team, need some help at C, NB and SS. At this point being able to pick a C would be ideal.

Pick #21 MIA: Six picks total, no 3rd and 4th rounders but have two 6th rounders. Very complete team, no immediate needs, can benefit by grabbing a OT and not pay Austin Jackson next year.

Pick #22 PHI: Eight picks total, no 3rd or 7th rounders but have two 2nd rounders and three 5th rounders. Solid offense with only the departure of Jason Kelce hurting them making the move to Cam Jurgens into the starting OL. Defensive side has no mayor issues but could be helped with a good S like Tyler Nubin or Kamren Kinchens. Wouldn't be surprised if they go IOL like Taliese Fuaga or Graham Barton, but could benefit more with one of the top OT to succeed Lane Johnson.

Pick #24 DAL: Seven picks total, no 4th rounder but have two 7th rounders. Can go multiple directions on both sides, they would benefit of adding some WR help like Brian Thomas or Xavier Legette. They could go RB as well.

Pick #25 GB: Eleven picks total, one on each round plus a 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th rounder. Solid offense, defense can get some help at LB and S. They had visits from LBs Edgerrin Cooper and Ty'Ron Hopper, could go OL as they are known to have plenty and pick Amarus Mims  or Tyler Guyton. who also had visits with.

Second best: Taliese Fuaga

Surprise: (S) Nubin/Kinchens or (LB) Wilson/Cooper

Pick #26 TB: Seven picks total, no 5th rounder but have two 3rd rounders. OK team with needs at the IOL and need to resolve Antoine Windfield's situation, either way a NB wouldn't hurt and did have a visit from Mike Sainristil but could be consider a reach, if Cooper DeJean is still on the board that would be the pick. A WR could make sense as well like Xavier Worthy or Ladd McConkey.

The Bills window is closing, still a decent team but there is help needed in various positions. Josh Allen could use more weapons and better IOL, but at this point the blue chip players might have all been gone by now.

Very good team, could really solidify their starting squad with a promising WR like Xavier Legette or Troy Franklin, although this is the spot some might consider taking Adonai Mitchell's athletic upside. They had KoolAid McKinstry for a visit, might be an option to have insurance for Carlton Davis.
