2020 RB position

The running game in 2019 was a thing of horror, David Montgomery as a rookie took the role of lead back and excelled at it although he didn't put the numbers to back it up. Even when there was no hole in front of him, he produced yards just by sheer will, strength and determination to not go down and not get pushed back. Not everything was clean, his vision can improve a bit but it was a slight issue because he needed to create his own running lanes instead of waiting for his Oline to open them up for him. Tarik Cohen took a step back and even worse I saw little to no willingness to attack the hole, running east-west and getting out the sidelines to often, again this is an issue with the Oline but this tells me that Cohen is not a pure running back and depends on his speed and agility alone to make defenders miss and can't sustain to many hits or doesn't want to. Cohen needs to be more involved on screens and the passing game and limit his snaps by how he played las year, two years ago it was the contrary, showing what a dangerous player he was with the ball coming off the backfield, but again, is it all the Olines fault? Is the running game broken because the Oline can't execute Matt Nagys playbook? It is a possibility and would be easier to fix, that is if the coaches know how to use their current players.
This position doesn't need that much attention, Montgomery should get better with better all around offense. It's time to see how good Ryan Nall is as a backup change of pace RB while getting Cohen and Cordarrelle Patterson on some situational plays. There isn't really someone on free agency that could make an impact aside maybe Matt Breida or a returning Jordan Howard to back up Montgomery if the team is still doubting Nalls potential. All is futile if the team can't turn around the bad play the Oline showed last year.
